The township maintenance department has one hourly employee and part time employees available to perform a variety of tasks, within the township, at the direction and supervision of the Board of Trustees. The township maintenance department is located within the Colton, Ohio township building located on Texas Street. The township is 29.5 square miles of territory with 40.02 miles of roads and right of ways that need to be maintained for public conveyance.
Over the past years, the Washington Township trustees have recognized the need to replace aging vehicles and equipment by budgeting yearly monies to accomplish this goal. In 2023, the township has a 1993 John Deere 4X4 tractor with front end loader and rear blade, a 1997 Ford F350 4X4 utility dump truck with snow blade, a 2020 Kenworth dump truck with snow blade and rear stone/salt spreaders, a 2022 Ford F-600 4X4 dump truck with snow plow and rear salt spreader and a 2022 zero turn mower for maintaining 3 cemeteries and township property. The vehicles and equipment plus miscellaneous hand equipment are used for plowing snow, mowing, road, ditch and berm maintenance.
